Mary Mulligan Named Co-Head of Friedman Kaplan’s White Collar Practice
Friedman Kaplan is pleased to announce that partner Mary Mulligan will be co-head of the firm’s Chambers and Legal 500-recognized white collar criminal defense practice. She has distinguished herself as a leader in the white collar defense bar and joins partner Eric Corngold in overseeing the group. Mary, a former federal prosecutor, brings to her leadership role over three decades of legal experience. She has handled matters involving virtually all aspects of white collar criminal defense, many of which have been high-profile and cross-border investigations and prosecutions. Recently described by the New York Law Journal as a “heavy hitter” in the white collar defense bar, she is a frequent speaker on investigations and enforcement topics.
“Mary is a renowned white collar practitioner known for advancing innovative and successful strategies and her ability to guide clients through difficult situations with both zealous advocacy and empathy. The firm’s white collar defense practice is at an exciting time of growth in which we are seeing an increase in the number, breadth, and complexity of both our corporate and individual representations along with several new hires and promotions within the firm’s ranks. Mary has played a key role in that growth, showing absolute dedication to clients, the professional development of our other white collar attorneys, and the firm overall. We are excited to recognize and formalize her many contributions with this leadership role,” commented Management Committee member Anne Beaumont.
"I am thrilled to help lead our white collar defense group, which is a phenomenal team of smart, creative, and fiercely dedicated lawyers. I’m looking forward to working with Eric Corngold and the group to continue providing our clients with the best possible representation,” Mary added.
Prior to joining Friedman Kaplan as a partner in 2006, Mary was in-house counsel at Universal Music Group, and before that, served as a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York. Passionate about developing the next generation of lawyers, she has served as a Lecturer in Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she taught white collar crime seminars.
In addition to her notable white collar practice at Friedman Kaplan, Mary also devotes considerable time to pro bono efforts and community service, including serving as a member of the board of directors of the Legal Action Center, which fights discrimination, builds health equity, and restores opportunity for people with criminal records, substance use disorders, and HIV or AIDS.
